VINTAGE GOSPEL MUSIC

Albertina Walker – (8/28/1929–10/8/2010) Chicago born, she sang in the youth choir at West Point Baptist Church. As she grew older, she sang with several gospel groups including the Pete Williams Singers, the Willie Webb Singers and the Robert Anderson Singers. She was mentored by Mahalia Jackson who encouraged her to go out on her own. In 1951, she formed the iconic group called the CARAVANS. Ms. Walker influenced many gospel personalities and was warmly known as “The Queen of Gospel Music.” 

Classic Old School Preaching

Rev. Dr. Gardner Calvin Taylor (June 18, 1918 – April 5, 2015) Born in Baton Rouge, LA, he was a civil rights warrior and a giant in the National Baptist Convention, USA and the Progressive Baptist Convention. A remarkable preacher, he was considered the “Dean of American Preachers.” He taught at both Yale and Harvard divinity schools and was the pastor of the Concord Baptist Church in Brooklyn, NY for many years. In 2000 he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
